By Buddy Shearer Labor Day has come and passed. To some this means an extra day of rest and a long weekend to travel to distant places. What does Labor Day mean to you? For so many people it means that work ceases for twenty-four hours. There will be time for fun and recreation. Many will return to work more tired and run down had they not had a day of rest. Yet all this leads to the fact that people have forgotten what Labor Day means. People have lost the real sense of dignity of an honest days work. They see no real meaning in their jobs. All they look forward to is the weekly pay check. God says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you; learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30) Is this your idea of work or are you like one hitchhiker who said to the other, "That is right, just sit there in the shade and let me work my finger to the bone." If we are to be happy in our living, we must find a meaning and a purpose to our jobs whatever it may be. You may be asking yourself how this is possible. First realize that every job has its own set of difficulties and its own set of satisfactions. Second, any job that you may have can be given more meaning if you just give to it interest and imagination. Finally, each job can be interpreted in human terms, as a venture in helping people, as a part of Gods plan for His world. I always thought of Hiram Goff, the cobbler, whenever I seek meaning to my job. Hiram had a meaning to his job. Read his story. I am a shoemaker by the grace of God. Just look at that (and he would hold up a battered shoe of a child). That shoe belongs to a little fellow of six. If he should catch a cold some muddy day and get pneumonia, his father might lose his child. Now then, I propose to mend these shoes as though my salvation depended upon it. God is saying to me, "Hiram, I have got you making shoes, and I want you to make them good; do not put paper in the soles for the sake of a little profit; and see that the uppers is well tanned." Every time I pull a thread I want to say to myself, "There that stitch will hold. I have put my religion into it." Here was a man that had a common job but he performed it to his best and for God. What is God saying to you? Has God set you to some task for you to do as though your salvation depended upon it? For the most satisfying job of all do the Lords work. It is one job that the pay will last for all eternity. Buddy Shearer is proving that anyone can become an Internet Success by using proven SEO Tactics.
